Dubai is expected to release a statement later today to announce that Expo 2020 is postponed.
With travel restrictions in place and strict global measures being taken to fight the COVID-19 outbreak around the world, uncertainty surrounding Expo 2020 has circulated in recent weeks.
According to a draft statement seen today by Reuters and two of its sources, Expo 2020 will be postponed by one year as a result of the global pandemic.
It is expected that Dubai will announce the push back following on from a meeting between UAE officials and participating countries later today.
Releasing the news, Reuters noted that “participations had asked for the delay, citing a need to focus on the coronavirus outbreak, the statement and two of the sources said.”
There has yet to be an official statement from Expo representatives.
Expo joins a growing list of major international events that have been postponed, including the 2020 Toyko Olympics, due to the havoc wreaked by the spread of the novel coronavirus.
