Australian personal trainer Kayla Itsines is heading to Dubai in December to take part in the Dubai Active festival. We caught up with her ahead of her trip to talk all things travel and fitness…
I’m so excited to be coming back in December to train with the BBG Community at Dubai Active. I first visited Dubai in 2017 and I fell in love with the city, the culture, the people, and how much there is to see and do. I had a pretty busy schedule on my last trip, but I did get a chance to get out of the city and experience a desert safari tour. It was amazing.
On this trip I’m really looking forward to exploring Dubai some more. My last trip to the emirate was only a few days, so this time we have decided to take a small family holiday there a few days before I appear at the Dubai Active Show. I’m really looking forward to exploring the city – checking out the souks, visiting Jumeirah Beach and maybe going up to the top of the Burj Khalifa to take in the surrounding landscape. I also can’t wait to see the Dubai BBG Community again.
Dubai has won a special place in my heart – and I’m not saying that just because I’m headed there. I just love that there is so much diversity in the city, and I get to meet people from all over the world. I also really love Singapore – the food is amazing, I love the culture and the sights and sounds of the city.
My family’s from Greece and Crete is one of my favourite places to visit. The people are so friendly and treat you like family. The beaches are gorgeous, and I love that everything you eat on the island is grown locally. My top-tip for discovering the island would be to walk everywhere and get to know the locals. They are so happy to help you find the non-touristy spots and they always know the best places to eat traditional food.
When you’re traveling you can stay active by walking everywhere, and making sure you eat fresh, seasonal produce to keep your energy levels up. It’s also important to drink lots of water. Digital fitness apps like SWEAT, are also really handy to use while travelling because you can use them in the comfort of your hotel room. It’s like having a personal trainer in your pocket.
The secret of staying fit healthy when you travel a lot is to create a routine you can stick to for the rest of your life. Exercise shouldn’t feel like a chore, so find a routine that works for you and your lifestyle. I think it’s important to create a balanced lifestyle that includes regular fitness, but also time for you to do the things you enjoy.
There are lots of place on my wish list to visit, but at the top right now is Japan, Turkey and Italy.
