Alton Towers Resort
Coming in first on our list is the UK’s largest theme park resort. Stretching over 910 acres of land, the park has been a renowned haven of thrill and adventure since the 1980s. The area was a well-known tourist attraction in the 60s and 70s but officially became a theme park in 1980.
Located in Central Staffordshire, Alton Towers is now home to over 40 rides and attractions, three impressive theme-park hotels, a waterpark, relaxing spas, and a rollercoaster restaurant. The hotel offers a combination of accommodation and a delightful choice of cuisines at their Secret Garden Restaurant and a unique Dragons Bar and Atrium. Dubai Parks and Resorts
Second on the list is the Middle East’s first largest integrated resort destination in the region, Dubai Parks and Resorts. Stretching over 25 million square feet, it has more than 100 fun rides and attractions across the different theme parks. It is home to three world-class theme parks, (Legoland Dubai, Motiongate Dubai and Bollywood Parks), a water park (Legoland Waterpark), Riverland Dubai, the grand entrance plaza, and a Polynesian-themed family resort (Lapita Hotel).
From Motiongate’s Hollywood-themed rides, Legoland’s interactive rides and Lego models to Bollywood Parks, wholly dedicated to India’s film industry, the park has something for everyone to enjoy. The resort’s gateway is through Riverland Dubai, which combines dining and retail and gives a glimpse of the past eras through four different zones: The French Village, Boardwalk, India Gate, and The Peninsula.
A fantastic getaway experience in South Western Europe, PortAventura provides guests with everything they need for an action-packed time. Located on the Costa Dorada, PortAventura has two theme parks, a waterpark and a selection of six and five-star hotels. The park has six themed areas, with five of them inspired by different regions of the world. From Mayan Mexico to a fishing village in the Mediterranean, there is also a special kids area, SésamoAventura, with rides that suit everyone.
The park also recently added Ferrari Land, dedicated to the Italian motor-racing team. PortAventura’s hotels are also themed, with four of them providing direct access to the park. The park’s location also makes it easy to enjoy a holiday as it is just five minutes away from the Salou beach and has access to shopping areas, sports facilities, outdoor activities and restaurants.
Castelnuovo del Garda, Italy
Vibrant and fun, Gardaland Resort is considered one of the top amusement parks in the world and is also number one in Italy. Located in the North East, Gardaland Resort is an incredibly fun family-centric spot and is one of the oldest and longest-standing parks in the country. The resort is home to a Legoland Water Park, a Sea Life Aquarium themed aquarium and three hotels – Gardaland Hotel, Gardaland Adventure Hotel, and Gardaland Magic Hotel.
The Amusement Park has themed areas that embrace the world of history, geography, space and fantasy. The various attractions at Gardaland are designed to cater to all ages- from the LEGO bricks and sea of interactive water games at LEGOLAND to admiring creatures from fresh and marine waters across the world in themed environments that reconstruct their natural habitats.
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
Calling all Disney fans; Disney’s Art of Animation Resort located in Orlando is a dream come true of the enchantment and magic of Walt Disney and Pixar movies. Opened in 2012, it is one of the more affordable Disney resorts when travelling in large groups. The park delivers the landscape from many Disney favourites like Finding Nemo and Cars, immersing visitors into the universe.
The park’s hotel has 1984 rooms, each themed to a different Disney world. It also has three pools, one of which is the largest pool of any Disney World hotel – the Big Blue Pool.
Opened in 2001, Universal Studios Japan is the first Universal Studios theme park built in Asia. Located in the Osaka Bay area, it attracts over eight million visitors every year. The theme park is the most visited amusement park in Japan after the Tokyo Disney Resort. It has ten different areas, each with a different theme: Hollywood, New York, San Francisco, Jurassic Park, Waterworld, Amity Village, Universal Wonderland, Minion Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Super Nintendo World. The closest hotel is Hotel Universal Port, which is a 4-minute walk from the theme park.
The world’s largest waterpark cannot miss featuring on this list. Dubai’s Adventure Waterpark is a must-visit when in the city. Offering over 30 slides and attractions, the park has numerous rides ideal for aquatic adrenaline junkies. Located next to Atlantis The Palm resort, the park has a selection of the world’s longest water rides catering to all ages. It also offers direct access to the beach, with a range of accommodation offerings.
Apart from the water attractions, Aquaventure is also home to the Lost Chamber Aquarium, the largest open aquarium that has 65,000 exotic marine creatures. Visitors can choose diving lessons or view sea animals from afar and experience aquatic life firsthand.
Wonderla Park and Resort
Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Wonderla is touted as one of the best amusement parks in the country, with three locations across India. While it is most famous for the high-thrill rides, it also features less insensitive ride options, so there’s something or every visitor. Located on the outskirts of Bangalore on Mysore road, Wonderla is an amusement and water park featuring over 60 rides. It’s famous for featuring India’s first reverse looping roller coaster, taking thrill-seekers in both directions, back and forth again along the ride. The water park is equally exciting, with a variety of slides ranging from thrilling to leisurely.
Wonderla Bangalore is the only waterpark in the country with a resort next to it. The Bengaluru Resort is a first-of-its-kind luxury resort in India. Europa-Park is the second most popular theme park in Europe, after Disneyland Paris. It was founded in 1975 by Franz Mack and his son, Roland Mack, soon developed into the largest theme park in Germany. The park has 15 European themed areas, almost like a fantasy tour through different regions of Europe.
Attracting 5.5 million visitors annually, Europa-Park represents countries by their famous landmarks and attractions. England is Shakespeare, represented by a replica Globe theatre and three bars, and presided over by a statue of Queen Victoria, for example. The venue also has 13 rollercoasters, six Europa-Park hotels and a rustic Camp Resort. Gröna Lund (meaning Green Grove) is one of the oldest theme parks in Sweden founded in 1833. Located on the seaward side of Djurgården Island, the park is part of the Parks and Resorts Scandinavia park group.
Grona Lund offers a wide range of entertainment like dance evenings and children’s events and has six restaurants as well as food and snack stands. It is also a widely popular venue for rock and pop concerts in the summer where artists like Bob Marley, Mackelmore and Elton John have performed.
